Awareness

Here are some notes on how this web site came into being ,and what we hope to achieve. To begin one of the people involved in establishing the Training , and Awareness course. Was involved in a very stressful job , and suffered from sleep deprivation for a number of years .As a result ended up suffering from anxiety panic attacks which brought the person to suffering from the condition known as agoraphobia. In the initial stages the sufferer had no idea what they were suffering from . Also it is worth noting that the sufferer spent two years rarely leaving their bedroom . In addition to this another three years not able to leave their home. During this time the sufferer was prescribed medication which the sufferer became addicted it took a further two years to wean themselves from the medication.

There is a long story involved in the sufferer trying to break free from the illness ,and volunteers who added to sufferers illness due to lack of knowledge on the subject. It was a few years later that the sufferer received a grant to research a training course for support groups , and carers . This led the sufferer to being invited to give talks to Nursing student classes at a number of Universities.

One of the things it is hoped to achieve is that support groups , and carers can be made aware of how to provide help from the sufferers point of view. By doing this help will mean providing support to the sufferer to reach agreed goals, and this possibly becoming part of a recovery programme. But least to be achieved will be a better quality of life for the sufferer.
